Mum given hilarious substitute for coffee in Tesco delivery
A mum has revealed the hilarious substitute she was sent instead of coffee in her Tesco delivery.
Claire Hopkins, from Gloucestershire, ordered a jar of the decaffeinated instant brew for residents at the lodgings where she is a manager.
But what arrived was nowhere close – or drinkable, Gloucester Live reports .
Claire was stunned to see as an alternative she had been sent a packet of the brand’s luxury soft shea butter toilet roll.
“It was so weird – usually when they’re doing a substitute they will swap for something fairly similar,” said a stunned Claire.
“But I did not expect that!”
Claire couldn’t quite believe it until she saw it on the receipt.
She added that the driver who dropped off the delivery “seemed in a hurry to get away.”
Claire continued: “It’s pretty ridiculous really to make that big a mistake.”
She informed Tesco of the foul-up over Twitter and was told that they would “look into it” but received no further reply other than that.
“There was no effort to placate me or send us what we actually ordered,” she added.
“To be honest, I would be happy with some Krispy Kremes as compensation!”
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Clearly it was just a mistake.”
It’s not the first time, a substitute by Tesco has baffled customers.
As we previously reported, mum Sheree Scanlon, who was trying to organise her daughter’s fifth birthday bash, could barely believe her eyes at what she was given instead of a number five candle.
The driver turned up with the mathematical equivalent – two number two candles and a number one.
The 45-year-old from Coventry took to the supermarket’s Facebook page to complain and said: “Absolute disbelief at the substitution from Tesco for a number 5 birthday candle.
“2, 2 and 1 is not quite the same.”
