Spurs face battle to keep youngster

Spurs face a battle to keep highly-rated starlet Tashan Oakley-Boothe.

The midfielder, 19, was included on the Tuttosport ‘Golden Boy’ award shortlist which names the best players aged 21 or younger registered with a top-tier European club.

Previous holders include Matthijs de Ligt, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and ex-Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart. A shortlist of 100 players has been released before it gets whittled down by 20 each month until October when the final 20 aim to be crowned Europe’s best young player.

Oakley-Boothe made his first-team debut for Spurs two years ago in a League Cup win over Barnsley.

He has not played since, but has impressed in the under-23s. And with just 12 months left on his deal, plus a year’s option, he has admirers at rival clubs.
